Teacher Appreciation Week: A Million Chances

Updated: May 12

As teacher appreciation week comes to an end, I only hope you all had the chance to show some appreciation to at least one staff member at our school. While the week is centered mostly around teachers, everyone at our school plays a major part in our day. If you haven’t gotten the chance I'm sure they'll still appreciate the kindness any day of the year. Maybe write a note to your favorite teacher... or at least say thank you to the ones who give us one too many extensions. Or, try saying a good morning or a thank you to Lori who scans us back into the building safely! If not that, then show some appreciation to Nurse Wendy who is always considerate and here to help when we are under the weather. Even if they aren't your teacher or a major part of your day, they are here for the betterment of you and all students in this building.

Do everything with a good heart and expect nothing in return, and you will never be disappointed. --- Nurse Wendy

My Appreciation

Every student in the building is assigned one of our counselors depending on your last name. If, like mine, your last name starts with a "B" or something close in the alphabet, then you most likely have Mrs. Nikolopoulos. She is one of the building counselors that work with students on all social, emotional, academic and career matters. If you are overwhelmed with something, have a scheduling problem, or are struggling to decide on what you want to do after your high school career then her and the other counselors are here to help.

I´m so fortunate to work at a place that values the student as a whole person --- Mrs. Nikolopoulos

If you don't have a bad habit of missing a few too many classes —  I definitely don't. You may not know her or maybe you've only seen her around. Maybe it's a smile in the hallways or maybe she tracks down your missing items on the cameras for you. Most don't actually know what her job title is, but, Amy is a Juvenile court liaison. She works with kids that are on probation but also with kids who are at risk of failing, being dropped from class due to attendance, or anything that may risk your exceeding in the future.

She's one of the main reasons that you'll catch me in class even on days I don't want to be because I know she's lurking around the corner ready to hold me accountable. She is always there to shine optimism on the student body, no matter who you are. In the wise words of Amy Schubert, "There is no such thing as a bad kid."

I really enjoy the kids that I work with; making relationships with students and helping them find the worth in themselves is one of the most important parts of my job --- Amy Schubert

Teacher appreciation extends past this one week, it should be celebrated throughout the entire year! Amy and Mrs. Nikolopoulos are just two examples of the wonderful staff we have here at North Scott. Our staff is full of educators that want the best for the student body, and that deserves to be celebrated.
