As Intense Heat Wave Passes Throughout The United States- Experts Warn This Is Not Normal

A March heat wave has surpassed previous temperature records in parts of the United States. Eight total states have set all-time heat records, and over 160 cities reached a peak of 112 degrees.

The areas at highest risk included parts of Arizona, Nevada, and California. This marks four
days in a row where March has exceeded normal temperatures, with Phoenix hitting an all-time high of 105 degrees. On Wednesday, North Shore, California, reached a record of 108 degrees, and on the same day, Martinez Lake, Arizona, reached 110 degrees.
Temperatures are 20 to 30 degrees above average, causing snowmelt, fire risks, and increased droughts. The West entered March with the lowest snowpack in years, and the heat wave is intensifying the melt. Experts have issued a warning of a drought due to soil drying up, causing more wildfire danger. Climate Expert Daniel Swain stated on his YouTube channel that this heat wave is “one of the more meteorologically exceptional events that I’ve seen in recent years in the American West, and that is saying something.”
These fire-risk months arrive early and drain water strains systems that are designed for typical seasonal patterns. Traditionally, record high March temperatures are set at the end of the month, but the heat wave is so intense that it's beating some April records.
Swain tries to further explain this problem by stating, “[t]his is a summerlike ridge occurring in March. It’s really genuinely shocking,” hinting that this weather is not typical for this time of year. Several scientists note how climate change has made these conditions more likely. Studies by World Weather Attribution and Climate Central have come to the conclusion that the March heat would have been impossible without any human-caused climate change. Global warming has caused a higher baseline temperature, creating hotter extremes than in the past. Experts warn that if a solution is not found quickly, the harsh conditions will only get worse, urging people to act sooner rather than later.
