Attention North Scott Artists! Do you have a passion for writing or visual art? Here is a chance to showcase your talents and earn cash prizes in a competition hosted by IDEAS, an English and Arts student organization at Western Illinois University.

What Is The Contest?

IDEAS is encouraging high school students to submit their original pieces for a chance to attend the special "Get Lit" event—a day celebrating the creativity and talent of students across the Quad Cities.

The contest involves three categories:

• Poetry

• Short Story or Screenplay

  • Maximum 7,500 words

• Image (drawing, painting, comic, graphic design, photography)

  
  

Of these categories, submissions must align with one of these three themes:

• Challenges We Accept

• Differences We Embrace

• Places we Love (environmental)

Gift cards will be awarded to the top three winners in all six categories! The deadline for submissions is Thursday, April 3rd, 2025.

What is "Get Lit"?

Selected students will be invited to attend the Get Lit event on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Western Illinois University-Quad Cities. The day will be packed with creative activities, including:

• A Q&A session with college students from different institutions

• An open mic forum where students can present their work, discuss their creative process, and share what their art means to them

• A complimentary lunch for all attendees and teachers

How to Submit

To enter the contest, visit the IDEAS LinkTree using the QR code on the event flyer. From there, navigate to the Get Lit website, where you can view past event photos and submit your work on the “How to Submit” page.
