Getting to know the new staff at North Scott High School
We will be profiling teachers and staff each week. We sent out a questionnaire to new staffers, and here's what we learned! Today we'll hear from Garrett Jahns, the new resource officer here at North Scott.
Garrett Jahns
What did you do before you started working at North Scott?
After high school, I joined the U.S. Army as an infantry soldier. After that, I was a sales representative for Wonder Bread. In 2006, began working in law enforcement as a Sheriff Deputy in Arizona. In 2012, I began work as a police officer in Blue Grass. I left Blue Grass as a police chief and decided to come to work in Eldridge in 2022 as a police officer.
What’s your favorite part of being here at North Scott?
I enjoy working with the students and staff, I enjoy mentoring and serving as a guest speaker in the classrooms.
Have you ever gotten a speeding ticket? How fast? Can you tell the story?
I haven't received a speeding ticket in many years.
Who’s your favorite sports/celebrity figure and why?
I enjoy watching movies starring Tom Hanks. He is a very talented actor who can make me believe that he is the character that he is portraying.
What’s the first thing you do when you get home?
I greet my family and discuss dinner ideas with my wife.
What inspired your career?
I have wanted to be a police officer for as long as I can remember. When I was younger it was because of TV shows like Magnum PI and Murder she wrote. In my early teen years, I watched shows like Family Matters (the dad was a police officer), Hill Street Blues and Law and Order. The thought of holding criminals accountable and bringing justice to victim's of crime was something that truly motivated me.
What is your favorite thing to teach?
My favorite thing to teach is anything involving crime prevention, and law related topics.
Describe your favorite meal.
My favorite food is a good ribeye steak. My favorite spot for a ribeye steak is Ruthies.
