The Symphonic Band will be performing three pieces this Sunday: Autobahn, Hung Aloft the Night, and The First Suite in Eb. This concert will celebrate all the hard work and dedication the students have put into their performances.

The first piece, Hung Aloft The Night, written by Anthony O’Toole, stems from the poem ‘Bright Star’ by English poet John Keats. The poem itself expresses a desire for something unattainable and a longing for stability and contentment in a world of chaos. This emotional piece is filled with many emotions. The soloists in this piece include Taylor Crain, Nathan Anderson, Rachel Eriksen, Blake Miguel, and Teagan Schmidt. The performance initiates with twinkling bells surrounding the audience. Of the eight bell sets used, three players are from the Concert Band, while two players are from the Junior High.

The second piece, Autobahn, was composed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneide. The song inspired the German highway system, known as the Autobahn. This piece features fascinating elements with various different components within. The soloists in this song include Zach Mcmann and Nathan Anderson.

Their final song, The First Suite in E-flat 3rd movement, composed by Gustav Holst. This song is a march that is characterized as assertive and energetic. The song highlights the brass section throughout the piece. The song is a cornerstone piece in the band and is one of the most significant works in music. It opens with a drum solo featuring various contrasting melodies. The piece was chosen to celebrate the foundation of music in schools, with this month’s theme focusing on marches.

Concert Band

As for the North Scott Concert Band, they will be playing two pieces under the direction of Mike McMann: Wicked and Adrienne Engines. These pieces showcase the effort and hard work they put into their music.

Their first piece, Wicked, written by Stephen Schwartz, is a world-renowned song based on the Broadway musical. It tells the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good, which is set in the Land of Oz before Dorothy's arrival. This emotional and uplifting piece is one to look forward to.

Their final song, Adrienne Engines, composed by Randall Standridge, is inspired by automobiles, trains, planes, and many other mechanical objects. The score is designed to be an adventurous and magical journey with lots of energy and excitement within.
