Prom Preparation

Prom is right around the corner for us here at North Scott; I hope you have May 17th marked on your calendars. Prom is a hectic day (or week), and it is best to take care of everything early. For those of you who like to procrastinate or don’t plan everything all the way through, I have compiled a list of things you need to have prepared for prom.Â
Prom, supposedly the best night of your life
Have Your Outfit Ready

For girls especially, I really hope you already have your prom dress. If not, I hate to break it to you, but you are going to have a hard time getting one. Assuming you have your dress, now is the time to get alterations done. It is starting to get down to the wire, so take your dress to your favorite seamstress and get that taken care of. Anyone with a satin dress, like me, make sure you steam it prior to wearing it so it is wrinkle free. I got my dress in the mail so it has a lot of creases that I need to get rid of of.Â
Other than your dress (or tux), make sure you have all of your accessories. This includes jewelry, shoes, etc. If you're a last minute person, Amazon will be your friend. That same-day shipping is a life savior if you realize you don’t have earrings to match your dress; however, take care of this now so you are not stressed the day of!Â
Dinner Reservations
Again, if you have not already, make your dinner reservations! A lot of schools in the area will end up having prom the same day as our school, so the sooner you make the reservation the better. Last year, my group and I went to Ruthie’s Steak and Seafood. It’s the restaurant on top of Rhythm City Casino. It was a good prom restaurant in my opinion, but, we ran into a lot of other groups from our school, and other schools, so, I stress my point to make reservations now! Other popular restaurants for prom are Biaggi's, Monarch Kitchen + Bar, and the J Bar. I have been to the J Bar and Biaggi's for various school dances, and they are both good choices.Â
Makeup, Hair, Nails
For me, these three are my biggest stressors when it comes to prom. What if my hair comes out bad? What if I smear my makeup? The what ifs are endless. To help alleviate the stress, I started getting my hair done professionally, but that isn’t an option for everyone, so I suggest practicing your hair a couple of times leading up to prom. The same goes for makeup, and you can usually find tutorials online if you need extra help. As for nails, I do not think getting an appointment should be as tricky as getting a dinner reservation. If you like to get your nails done for dances, sometime in the week leading up, either book an appointment, or just do a walk in at your favorite nail salon. Have an inspo pic ready to go when you get there, and then you’re golden!Â
Flowers

Bouquets and boutonnieres have become the current trend for prom. While it is up to you, bouquets from prom have taken the place of corsages. Corsages are difficult to DIY, so order them ahead of time from even just a place like HyVee. Bouquets, depending on your level of craftiness, and how busy you are, can be done at home. I know a lot of girls who have made their bouquets at home and they turned out gorgeous. I have a spring sport, and limited time, so I ordered my bouquet and that worked great too.Â
