Senior Spotlight: Connor Meskimen

Connor is a great role model, he teaches me how to be responsible while having fun and how to grow as a person -- Josiah Mulvihill

In a high school with so many students, there are always some who stand out. Whether it's kindness, academics, or sports excellence. As we approach our last months with our seniors, we thought it would be nice to get to know some of the ones who have left a mark on the school in bigger ways than most.

Since I sent my form out, one of the first and most suggested seniors was Connor Meskimen. If you don’t know Connor or haven’t gotten the pleasure of getting to talk to him like I have, he is a North Scott senior who has spent the majority of his life in our district. Connor was #22 on the football team, so maybe you have cheered for him on the field or heard him cheering in the student section during basketball season. When I asked around about Connor, I didn't meet anyone who had anything short of kind to say. From his kindness, making everyone feel seen and heard, to his spirit and love for his school, here are Connor's words on his movie-worthy high school experience, and what I think will be a bright future.

How has your senior year been so far?

It’s been amazing. High school is definitely going by fast, but I’m enjoying every moment and want to make a lot of memories.

Did you know you make such an impact on others?

I feel honored to have made an impact on so many people. I try to make everyone feel welcome and have a great high school experience as I did, and hearing that I’ve made a difference makes me happy. My parents have always taught me to treat people how I want to be treated, and that’s what I try to do every day. I’m glad that people appreciate it.

As a freshman, coming into any student section would be scary, but having leaders who make you feel comfortable and want to cheer, not just yell at you to sit in the back, definitely makes it feel easier -- Anon

What extracurricular activities or sports are you involved in?

I have played football all four years of high school. It has helped me make friends who feel like family, and the program has given me so many memories I hope to have forever. I have also taken FBLA, and that is a great club that teaches you a lot about leadership and just great skills to carry on.

Connor was a great teammate. Always willing to do what was asked of him and what the team needed from him. My favorite memory of Connor will be his participation in our optional bible studies on Thursday evenings after practice at my house. It allowed me to see a different side of him that I really enjoyed and came to respect. -- Coach Stew

Who has been your favorite teacher/mentor? Why?

My favorite teacher is Mrs. Oltman. She is relatable, approachable, and has taught me so much that I will remember for a long time.

Connor is a goofy, loyal student. He brings a lot of energy to the classroom and makes sure everyone is included and heard. I really enjoyed getting to know Connor, and I'm excited to see what he's going to do for his next steps -- Mrs. Oltman

One thing you will miss about high school?

The school atmosphere has been incredible. Being with the same people for 4 years has created strong friendships, and knowing everyone will be splitting up soon is a little scary.

He has so much aura, he's actually the king of high school - Bradyn Mulvaney

What are your plans after high school?

After high school, I plan to attend Kirkwood for construction management, work in construction for a few years, and eventually start my own business.

One piece of advice you have for incoming freshmen?

Don’t take it for granted; it goes by fast. Make the most of your experiences because they do stick with you.

High energy, Engaged, Incredibly proud to be a lancer - Marceau

One piece of advice you have for next year's seniors?

Do job shadows. I didn’t know what I wanted to do this year, and job shadows helped. I would definitely recommend doing them.
