I started laughing. It's all a political stunt by an orange man. -- Anonymous

Where were you when TikTok went dark for millions of americans? At home? At work? On the app? Regardless of where you were, we all experienced the same thing. Whether it had been in the early hours around 10:30 or anywhere in the next 24 hours users received an error message stating that, “A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use Tiktok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!." While this caused many reactions and raised even more questions, it would only be temporary. Many people theorize that this temporary shutdown was a power move, or maybe it was meant to prove a point.
Questions And Concerns
Where did the ban come from in the first place? As an active user of TikTok over the years you would have definitely seen the threat of TikTok being banned on and off but what you maybe didn’t know is that the threats were never all just made up. Government officials have been bringing up concerns about the app and possible ties to chinese pose to national security since the app surfaced from Musically. Just last year congress forced the Chinese parent company to sell its stake in the app or be cut from the u.s market. Where these concerns have come from we aren’t entirely sure. Maybe from behind the scenes government affairs we as the people haven’t heard about or Maybe complete ignorance is your take if you’ve seen the clips with Ceo Shou zi chew having to Explain basic Technology To congress. North Scott Reactions
When asked about your opinion on the subject you all had many different things to say, here's what was gathered. While some students remained unaffected and even happy to be released from the hold TikTok may have on us, the majority of students were just as upset as most of America. Some students brought up interesting points: The date for the ban had been set and they ended up taking the app away hours before they were supposed to, was this some sort of power move?. Tiktok has always been an app that promoted innovation, free speech and creativity so why are we being censored now? And why did the government seem to care so much about taking an app away and not putting out the wildfires. Whether there were tears or boredom that ensued in the hours without TikTok, we all have a right to feel any way we want to feel about the ban.
Not much, it was just a normal day, but i was upset that they cared more about banning a app then trying to stop the wildfires, banning TikTok was stupid. -- Anonymous
It frustrated me, but I'm glad TikTok is back.-- Anonymous
What We Know
As of now, TikTok is back up and working for the users who didn't delete the app during the ban; although, there might be issues regarding the quality of some videos. For you pages have been reported as being affected but it will stay up until any further decisions about the ban. CBS News reported it would stay up 50 days after the day Americans were allowed back on the app, but there is still a possibility of it being banned completely. America is said to begin 50% ownership of the app, and questions have been raised about if there will end up being a new CEO or if the app will continue having Shou zi chew as its ceo. If the app does end up becoming available for everyone on the app store again it may be going through some significant changes so everyone should enjoy it while we have it.
